iceowl is the unbranded sunbird standalone application.

lightning, the sunbird based thunderbird extension will be called
iceowl-extension … and will be usable in icedove + thunderbird.

I will announce on debian planet once those are uploaded.

Today, sunbird was approved to the official debian archives. Thanks to ftpmasters for letting it in … finally.

Of course, you can still get it from my experimental archive.

Finally, I did the work needed in order to package sunbird 0.3 alpha. You can get it from my experimental archive. The package version is: 0.2.99+0.3alpha1-1.

On positive feedback, I will send this package to experimental (really!).

I uploaded a new version of sunbird to my archives. Actually, its some 0.3 alpha preview release, if you want to have a name. I took a cvs snapshot on Sep 17, 2005 for that purpose.

First, the good news:
I am uploading sunbird to my stable archive in a move to honour the good amount of work done by sunbird developers and the progress made in general usability and stability of sunbird. Read the blog entry http://www.babylonsounds.com/2005/09/sunbirdcalendar-progress-report.html to get some detailed infos on what has been achieved in recent history.

For those not willing to read the full story here the most important points:

• improved localization capabilities
• various improvements and fixes for the handling of recurring events
• improved task handling with lots of bug fixes
• improved multi calendar handling

Second, some bad news:
When will this release go into the debian archive? I can’t tell. I guess I have to find a free logo for sunbird first. So contributions or ideas for a good alternative are welcome.

For now, I uploaded sunbird to my stable archive only. As soon as I get to it, I will build it for sid too. That package will go into my experimental archives. My apt lines for all repositories are available from http://www.asoftsite.org/apt-archives.html.

As promised, I Just uploaded a new sunbird snapshot (13 Jul 2005) to my experimental archive. Use the apt lines given below to get your latest sunbird version for debian.

This snapshot looks much better than the previous. If you have any problems or questions feel free to post a comment.

Just pushed a new sunbird snapshot (5 Jul 2005) to my experimental archive. See my post about my current apt archives for the apt lines you need in order to install this package.

For those that installed my previous packge: you might need to delete your profile directory ($HOME/.mozilla/sunbird) in order to get sunbird in a useful state again. Other issues, like the need to create your own calendar at first are not needed anymore …

For people new to sunbird: just install and start sunbird … but remember, this is an experimental snapshot build. Your profile might get useless for the next package, so don’t depend on what is in your calendar and don’t use it for something serious.

UPDATE: ... apparently the New Event Dialog is broken and not functional. So for the time being, you cannot add any new events. I will look out for a better snapshot and release a new version ASAP. Sorry, but as I said, don’t depend on this ... the sunbird development HEAD is still quite unstable.

A while ago I took over the ITP #266824 to package sunbird for debian. Finally, I am happy to announce a first preview package for all of you eagerly awaiting a mozilla based calendar. Though, sunbird is still not ready to go in the debian archives I will provide regular snapshot builds from now on in my experimental archive (be aware that this is nothing for production use; for serious things don’t use packages in there).

Anyone, who wants to help test sunbird is welcome to do so now. Just point your apt sources.list to the following line:

to get access to my preview sunbird package. To install sunbird, run

After that, you can launch thunderbird by invoking

from the command line.

Getting Started Note: You need to create an initial calendar on your own. In order to do so, select File -> New Calendar File … when first starting sunbird. After a restart you are ready to use your new calendar application .
