Thursday, February 21. 2008UDW: firefox 3 extension packaging session about to startLast minute reminder: we have a firefox 3 extension packaging session in #ubuntu-classroom at 1600 UTC today (about 1 hour from now). This session is great for starters as well as for skilled packagers that want to help getting more extensions into ubuntu. I have prepared some content that you don’t read in advance (of course you can
Note: The packaging page above requires a mozilla-devscript package version that isn’t in the archive yet. You can get it from my PPA for now: https://edge.launchpad.net/~asac/+archive See you all in a few minutes! Wednesday, February 13. 2008firefox 3 beta 3 screens (hardy)If you volunteered testing firefox-3.0 preview packages you will be asked which profile you want to use in future … The new addons management rocks and you can install ubuntu packages by selecting the right top link “Get Ubuntu Extensions” ... Btw, firefox 3 beta 3 now has a native gtk print dialog … The preferences dialog has a polished look as well … ... and some users will definitly be happy that the ability to add certificate exceptions is available again … Last but not least firefox 3 is still beta and thus not perfect (yet). Read the Release Notes for more details on the glitches in this release. Enjoy!! My 5 Today ...one … two … BETA 3 !
Beware: this one takes over the world (if not the world, firefox 2 for sure). Wednesday, February 6. 2008CALL for TESTERS - firefox stability/security RC builds need QA/feedbackHi all, there are firefox packages available on http://mozilla.qa.ubuntu.com that need feedback before we can roll them out to the masses. If you are using dapper, edgy, feisty or gutsy on your production system or have chroots/VMs of those ubuntus you can help and make a big difference. If you want to help, follow the instructions on the website above and provide feedback for the tests associated with each build (click on the build you want to test to see the list of tests). If you don’t have time to do the full “testplan from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/QA” you still can help a lot by doing the “normal use (15 minutes) with NEW profile” or the “normal use (15 minutes) with existing profile” tests. Those just require you to use firefox as usual and provide us with positive feedback. If you have any questions, ask on ubuntu-mozillateam@lists.ubuntu.com or in #ubuntu-mozillateam on irc.freenode.net. Thanks!

Monday, February 4. 2008mozilla/firefox 2.0.0.12 (RC3) security backports to 1.8.0 branch... finally I got my blog up again and I start with yet another lame post My latest security backports to the upstream abandoned mozilla 1.8.0 branch are now available at http://people.ubuntu.com/~asac/mozilla-security/moz-1.8.1.12a-backports.tar.gz. Those patches should cover all security related fixes that landed on the 1.8 branch (firefox 2) as of 2.0.0.12 RC3. I noticed that I didn’t really release any of the post-mortem security patches released in debian and ubuntu. So, here the patchsets for the 1.8.0 branch that contains them all:
Those tarballs ship quilt patch directories. This means that the sequence to apply them cleanly can be found in the contained series file. To apply them to MOZILLA_1_8_0_BRANCH checkout, just copy the directory contained to your checkout (name the directory patches if you like) and run CODE: quilt push -a
Have fun!

Friday, December 8. 2006noteworthy things from the firefox & linux frontmconnor (Mozilla Corp) and caillon (Red Hat) give hope that mozillas attitude finally starts to change (in the right direction):
That’s all good news, but even better … “Red Hat and Novell are both going to commit some effort into maintaining the Firefox 1.5.0.x line past the current EOL date this spring” ... thank $GOD for that

Wednesday, November 15. 2006mozilla security updates available for testingThanks to Mike Hommey we have another set of security updates for mozilla-firefox 1.0.4-2sarge13 Please use my security archive to get the preview packages and If you encounter any NEW problems, please let us know at pkg-mozilla-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org. Thanks for your support. Tuesday, October 10. 2006IceLizard application namesIt might be obvious for most that follow recent discussions, but here are the names of our IceLizard applications, as we will probably ship in etch:
Now we need some artwork … there is a great draft site in ubuntu wiki that looks quite promising: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IceWeaselIcon Of course, no guarantees Saturday, September 30. 2006freeing mozillas - thunderbird rename - iceweasel upstreamAs I red the post of MJ Ray on planet, I contacted the gnuzilla project and offered to join them in order to make them a good upstream for distributors that cannot obey the new mozilla trademark policy. My current preference is to use snoweagle for thunderbird. IMO it would be a good choice, as it would be in the same spirit as iceweasel for firefox. Anyway, more ideas are welcome …
