I think that the "Freefox" name is brilliant – if you do not read it with much attention, it reads just like Firefox and still it has the intended difference and the word "free" inside. Why exactly do you think the Mozilla Trademark policy is "new"? It has not changed drastically in a very long time. Take a look at [http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy.html]. At the bottom of the page, there is a link to the "Document History." The history shows the page was originally created in 2004. The policy is not new. Also, the distribution policy is located at [http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/distribution-policy.html]. You can check the history of that file, too, and see when it was created and modified. So, please make sure you have the facts when stating something. Thanks! I knew of that obvious fact … Anyway, there is always a not-explicit component in a policy. Mozilla Foundation presented by gerv allowed us to distribute firefox/thunderbird the way we do atm. We even renamed the package from mozilla-xxx to just xxx in order to obey. Call it what you want, a change in trademark strategy or tactics or whatever, but for me this definitly boils down to a "change in trademark policy". I think Lightningfish is a very good choice as it contrast with Thunderbird. IceWeasel is about opposites (Fire->Ice, Fox->Weasel). So for ThunderBird, well any geek of an elements-based game will tell you Thunder->Earth, and the opposite of a "bird" is clearly "mother" (if you disagree, think of different senses of "bird"...) So yeah… EarthMother. Just hope the Tauren don’t catch us… |
