Hi all,

finally mozilla-thunderbird 1.5 is debianized and ready for early testing. I am currently pushing it to my experimental archive. It was build for debian sid … so don’t expect it to work in testing or sarge.

What’s noteworthy?

mozilla-thunderbird-offline package is now fully integrated into the main thunderbird package – no need to install it explicitly anymore.
mozilla-thunderbird-inspector is still a bit broken – looks as if upstream did not care. Maybe I can fix this … or remove it .
removed almost all patches. Please drop comments if you find something missing (e.g. like mailto: links from browsers or http: links from mails don’t work anymore).

What’s still missing for unstable/etch?

Package name transition – in response to mozilla trademark policy.
A working enigmail extension package.
thunderbird-gnome-support package to provide full gnome integration – like mozilla-firefox.
a good amount of testing.
bug triage … if you want you could visit the current debian bug reports and try to reproduce them. There should be quite a bunch of bugs that don’t apply anymore – especially those tagged as ‘fixed-upstream’. If you identify such a bug, please mail a note to the bug report. For convenience … get a list of current bugs from here.

I just dumped Ubuntu Dapper/Breezy for Debian sid in hopes of finally being able to install current software.

Thanks to people like you, I’m getting my wish (so far).

Package is working fine although there is a conflict with the MrTech Local Install extension.

If a new window is opened (ANY window) and you close it either with the X in the corner, or using File -> Close, the whole program closes.

Uncommenting the "set -x" in /usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird gives the following output at the time of closing:

This does not happen with the standard moz.org build. Other than this conflict with Local Install, this pkg has been working wonderfully.

Thanks for the feedback …. can you please send me a link to the .xpi package you installed?

Does the unexpected quit of thunderbird only happen if you are running tbird with MrTechs extension?

One more thing … did this behaviour start with1.5 release or is it reproducable with the package currently in sid too (1.0.7-x)?

To the best of my knowlege, this behaviour started with the 1.5 package. Once I get back from work tonight I’ll do some testing and I’ll let you know of the results.

Both the 4.0 release and the dev build of Local Install make it abort which can be found at http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/local_install/

This is the only extension that I’ve found that’ll cause T-Bird to abort. Starting with a clean profile and installing just this one extension will give the result that I (tried) to describe.
Since the abort happens only in this experimental 1.5 package (and not with the "official" moz.org builds for Windows or Linux) I wanted to let you know of this.

FWIW, I posted this here as opposed to the Debian BTS because technically this isn’t in Debian yet, so I hope I made the right decision in posting it here as opposed to my original "wishlist bug."

OK, here a quick-fixed local install xpi:

I sent the patch to Mr. Tech. So maybe you can use upstreams version with the next release.

In the few days that I’ve been using it I’ve only come across 3 minor bugs.

1) The throbber doesn’t seem to work. In cases (like mine) where the POP server one is downloading from is very very slow, it’s hard to tell if it’s still connecting, has connected or timed out.

The other two are cosmetic.

2). No logo appears in "Help—>About
3) The applicatioion name reads "Mail/News" rather than "Thunderbird"

Thanks for your feedback … Did you see the throbber issue in 1.0.7 too or is it a regression?

And yes, the white-labelled thunderbird is far from perfect … anyway, I am still looking for a good "no-trademark" branding for tbird in debian and derivates. If you know a good one or an artist who would like to contribute, let me know!

Bugs found: – help -> About shows no logo – view source windows don’t have an icon – preferences window doesn’t auto-resize to actually have enough space to show all of it’s options, and there’s no visible scrollbars. Plus, it can be resized to an arbitrary size irregardless of the sizes of the widgets
